Championing authenticity, one story at a time-proudly serving the LGBTQ+ community.
Why This Matters to Me
As a therapist and advocate, my inspiration stems from a deep belief in the inherent dignity and worth of EVERY individual. Working with the LGBTQ+ community has shown me the power of authenticity, resilience, and connection. I am committed to creating spaces where all people feel seen, heard, and respected, and to champion the rights of those whose voices have too often been silenced. Through my work, I strive to uplift and empower individuals while advocating for a world rooted in equity, acceptance, and compassion for all.
A Little Bit About Myself
I have lived in Brazoria County for almost 2 years
I am an extrovert, but do enjoy staying in and watching movies, listening to music, and reading.
My Journey
Beginning: I found BC Pride through the monthly coffee socials (two of my favorite things!) I was a participant at the 2023 Pride Festival and was moved by the flag display.
Growth: I continued to attend the coffee socials, getting to know the "regulars" which led to me volunteering for the 2024 Pride Festival in the youth area (we had a ton of fun)
Blossomed: I haven't had the chance to be involved with an organization in this way and believed it was time.
Cool Stuff I've Done
I have raised 3 amazing humans, all in the LGBTQ+ community; I achieved my Master's in Clinical Counseling while raising those 3 amazing humans.
I'm more of an Outreach person than a Finance person. Put me in front of people to talk about our work and I'm good!
My experience in providing support services includes counseling, case management, and community outreach, where I've worked with diverse populations, including survivors of assault, foster families, and individuals experiencing homelessness. While my direct work with the LGBTQ+ community is just beginning, I bring deep commitment to fostering dignity, respect, and inclusion for all. I'm ready to apply my skills to support the unique needs of the LGBTQ+ individuals and their families.
My Hopes for the Future of Brazoria County Pride
I would love to see a resource list posted on our website to cover everything from affirming doctors, mental health professionals, and wedding venues. I could see a Shawna's corner with important information about current laws affecting our community, information on advocacy, and mental health tips. I'm also hoping to increase our scholarship funds to help more in our community achieve their educational goals.
